Direct solar exposure is one of the main challenges faced by automotive showrooms. At a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Madrid, extensive glazed surfaces resulted in significant solar heat gain, reflections on the vehicles and increased indoor temperatures, affecting both visitor comfort and the preservation of finishes continuously exposed to solar radiation.

The aim of the project was to maintain the brightness and transparency expected of a premium showroom while eliminating the negative effects of solar radiation. To achieve this, Solarcheck developed a specific solution by installing the high-performance Sentinel Plus Silver 20 solar control window film across approximately 1,000 m² of glazed surface, including 370 m² of skylights, particularly critical areas due to their high level of solar exposure.

Sentinel Plus Silver 20 stands out for its exceptional solar control performance, rejecting up to 86% of total solar energy (TSER) and up to 90% of infrared radiation, one of the main contributors to rising indoor temperatures. Its low g-value of up to 0.14 makes it one of the most efficient solutions for minimising solar heat gain in highly exposed areas such as skylights.

In terms of visual comfort, the film provides up to 82% glare reduction, minimising reflections on vehicle bodywork, glazing and other glossy surfaces. This significantly enhances the visual presentation of the vehicles on display, a key consideration in a premium retail environment. Its spectral selectivity also allows natural daylight to be maximised without compromising visual comfort.

At the same time, the solution blocks more than 99% of ultraviolet radiation, helping to protect upholstery, interior materials, decorative elements and advertising displays against premature ageing and fading.

Thanks to this intervention, the thermal load inside the dealership has been significantly reduced, helping to stabilise indoor temperatures even in the most exposed areas, such as the skylights. This has reduced reliance on HVAC systems and improved the building’s overall energy efficiency.

The result is a more comfortable, efficient and visually optimised environment, aligned with the standards of quality, innovation and excellence that define the Mercedes-Benz brand experience.
