ASI also relies on solar film technology to protect its facade from heat and reduce energy consumption by around 130,000 KG/year of CO2 emissions. Our partner Teknofilm S.r.l. installed 2,500 m of solar protection film in Italy. Solarcheck on the glass surface of the headquarters of the Italian Space Agency in Rome. The ASI, founded in 1988, is a national public body that acts in Italian space policy, in accordance with government directives. The agency plays a key role at both the European and global level, and maintains a close collaboration with NASA. The building consists of a fully glazed crescent-shaped, double-glazed façade, arranged in a semi-circular perimeter. In order to support our client, Solarcheck carried out a detailed energy study and recommended the installation of Solarcheck Sentinel Plus SX50 film for this project. This type of film rejects 78% of IR rays and, at the same time, allows a good percentage of visible transmitted light, providing a soft glow, but without excessively changing the façade of the building. With this intervention, the strategic centre gains in interior thermal comfort and reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 130,000 kg/year. One of the main aims of the ASI was to reduce its energy consumption, which, according to estimates, will result in savings of around 60,000 eur/year. In addition, the Solarcheck sheets have EPD certification, an environmental product declaration that, after analysing the entire production process, corroborates that they are carbon negative. The project has been carried out without interruption and without the need to stop the agency’s activity.
