The energy modernisation of public buildings is one of the key strategies for reducing energy consumption and improving occupant comfort. At the Palazzo Municipale di Avezzano (Italy), the thermal performance of the glazed surfaces could be improved due to high levels of solar exposure throughout much of the year.

With the aim of optimising energy performance without altering the building’s architectural appearance or compromising natural light, Solarcheck carried out an installation covering approximately 2,000 m² of glazed surfaces, using the high-performance Sentinel Plus Silver 20 window film.

This solution stands out for its high solar control performance, rejecting up to 86% of total solar energy (TSER) and up to 90% of infrared radiation, one of the main contributors to heat build-up inside buildings. Its low solar factor (g-value as low as 0.14) effectively minimises heat gain through the glazing, significantly improving the energy performance of the building envelope.

In terms of visual comfort, the film provides glare reduction of up to 82%, helping to create optimal working conditions in offices, meeting rooms and public service areas. Its spectral selectivity also makes it possible to maximise the use of natural light without causing overheating.

The solution also blocks more than 99% of ultraviolet radiation, protecting furniture, documents and interior finishes against deterioration and fading caused by prolonged solar exposure, thereby helping to reduce maintenance costs in the medium and long term.

Thanks to this installation, the Palazzo Municipale has significantly improved thermal comfort throughout its interior spaces, stabilising temperatures in the most exposed areas. The reduction in heat load has optimised the operation of HVAC systems, contributing to more efficient and sustainable energy management.

The result is a discreet yet highly effective intervention that demonstrates how an advanced solar control solution can deliver significant improvements in energy efficiency, well-being and sustainability in institutional buildings.
