WingSafe™ Black Dot and White Dot
Make our buildings a safe space for birds.
Every year in Europe, hundreds of millions of birds die after colliding with windows and glass facades. This phenomenon raises serious concerns for nature conservation, as it impacts bird populations and biodiversity.
Solarcheck® WingSafe™ Black Dot and White Dot
AN EFFECTIVE AND DURABLE SOLUTION TO IMPROVE GLAZED SURFACES AND MAKE THEM SAFER FOR BIRDS.
For a world without bird collisions
The increasing number of buildings with large glazed façades is one of the main factors that has drastically altered birds’ natural habitats.
Common solutions, such as predator-shaped decals, have proven clearly ineffective in reducing the frequency and severity of these collisions.
In the same way that Saint-Gobain researches and develops solutions to incorporate bird-protection features into the design of new glazing systems, Solarcheck is focused on making existing façades more compatible with bird safety.
Special attention should be paid to transparent surfaces offering clear views of the sky, vegetation and natural landscapes — such as glazed enclosures, greenhouses, fully glazed building receptions, lift shafts and large glass façades.
Buildings located in open landscapes or near transport corridors represent a significant threat to birds. Reflective surfaces are also problematic, as birds are unable to distinguish reflections of trees, branches or open sky from physical reality.
From a bird protection perspective, reflective glass should be treated with the same level of priority as clear glass.
Solarcheck® WingSafe Black Dot™
MAKES FACADES AND GLAZED SURFACES SAFER FOR BIRDS
Proven effectiveness through independent testing
Let’s make our buildings a safe space for birds
1- TF Tests = 4% on clear glass (American Bird Conservancy Laboratory, USA) and TF = 13% on reflective glass (WIN-Test Flugtunnel II Laboratory, Austria) – TF = “Threat Factor” the lower the value, the safer it is for birds.
2- Multi-layer film composed of optically transparent polyester for exterior use, incorporating an integrated bird-strike pattern and protected by Solarcheck’s proprietary weather-resistant coating.
3- Product integrated design: Unlike stickers, it will not fade, become damaged, or be accidentally removed.
4- No edge sealing is required on vertical surfaces (except where water accumulation may occur in timber structures).
5- It is applied like any other exterior protective film.
6- Guaranteed for up to 10 years on vertical surfaces*.
7- Special adhesive allowing removal without leaving residue on the glass.
8- Standard roll dimensions: 152 cm × 30 m.
9- Longer rolls available for project-specific requirements and custom cutting.
.
10- Requires no special maintenance. The pattern design (dot screen printing) does not affect cleaning operations.
11- Rejects more than 99% of harmful UV radiation.
Solarcheck ® WingSafe™ Black Dot and White Dot
The Solarcheck WingSafe™ Black Dot product was tested at the Foreman’s Branch of the American Bird Conservancy (abcbirds.org) and achieved a Threat Factor (TF) of 4%. The WingSafe White Dot system achieved a Threat Factor (TF) of 19%.
The Threat Factor (TF) of a surface is based on the flight analysis of at least 80 birds through the tunnel, recording whether they fly toward the control panel or the test panel treated with the dot-pattern product. For example, suppose 100 birds (>80) fly through the tunnel, 3 toward the patterned test panel, and 97 toward the control panel. 3% (3/100) of birds fly toward the test panel, and therefore: TF = 3.
Additionally, the Solarcheck WingSafe™ Black Dot product was also tested at the Hohenau-Ringelsdorf Biological Station in Austria (WIN Flight Tunnel II test) on a reflective glass panel (41% reflectivity). The collision factor (TF) obtained was 13% (in sunny conditions) and 16% (in cloudy conditions).
Currently, WingSafe™ Black Dot and White Dot are available in a single pattern and two colour options: 11 mm black or white dots spaced 65 mm apart in an orthogonal grid.
