Every year in Europe, hundreds of millions of birds die after colliding with windows and glass facades. This phenomenon raises serious concerns for nature conservation, as it impacts bird populations and biodiversity.
The proliferation of buildings with extensive glazing is a key factor that has profoundly altered natural bird habitats. Common solutions, such as bird-of-prey stickers, have proven ineffective in reducing the frequency and severity of collisions.
Like Saint-Gobain, which researches and implements solutions to integrate bird-protection features into the design of new glazing models, Solarcheck is committed to making existing facades safer for birds.
Solarcheck WingSafe™ Black Dot S35 is the first exterior solar protection film to integrate a bird collision prevention solution and come with a 10-year warranty. Independently tested in the Flugtunnel II wind tunnel in Austria, WingSafeTM Black Dot S35 achieved a TF rating of 13%, confirming its effectiveness in reducing bird collisions.

1- TF = 13% THREAT FACTOR on a reflective surface (WIN-Tests Flugtunnel II, Austria)
2- Multi-layer film composed of optically transparent polyester for exterior use, incorporating an integrated bird-strike pattern and protected by Solarcheck’s proprietary weather-resistant coating.

3- Product integrated design: Unlike stickers, it will not fade, become damaged, or be accidentally removed.
4- No edge sealing is required on vertical surfaces (except where water accumulation may occur in timber structures).

Solarcheck ® WingSafe Black Dot S35™
The Solarcheck WingSafe™ Black Dot S35 was tested at the Hohenau- Ringelsdorf Biological Station in Austria (WIN II wind tunnel tests). The Threat Factor (TF) obtained was 13% in sunny weather and 16% in cloudy weather.
The Threat Factor (CF) of a solution is determined by flying at least 80 birds throu- gh the tunnel and observing whether they fly toward the control glass or the patter- ned test glass. For example, if 100 birds (>80) fly through the tunnel and 3 fly toward the patterned test glass while 97 fly toward the control glass, 3% (3/100) of the birds will fly toward the patterned test glass; in this case, the result will be: CF = 3.
Most often, bird-collision films are tested on clear glass. However, in real-world installations, untreated glass is rarely used: modern buildings typically incorporate reflective coatings, and older windows are fitted with solar control films to improve their performance.
Currently WingSafe Black Dot S35™ It comes in only one form: 11 mm black dots arranged in a 65 mm × 65 mm orthogonal grid.
